As the last starfighter, only Henry Gallant can stop the alien invasion.

In an era of genetic engineering, Henry Gallant is the only Natural left in the United Planets' fleet.

With the fleet on the verge of annihilation from invading aliens, analyzing the captured computer in Gallant's possession is critical to stopping the invasion. He can expect no help as he navigates through threatening aliens on his way to Mars. His shipmates doubt he is up to the challenge.

But as the last starfighter in Squadron 111, the lives of his shipmates, as well as a good many others, depends on Henry Gallant.

For Fans of Honor Harrington and Horatio Hornblower.

Midshipman Henry Gallant in Space The Henry Gallant Saga Book 1 eBook H Peter Alesso

The story itself is wonderful, but you'd expect quite a bit more from someone who is supposedly a scientist at Lawrence Livermore.

First: They're in space. There's no gravity. Thus, when Gallant or Red or Neuman perform a radical maneuver, they are not pushed back in their seats. They may get thrown one way or another when changing direction rapidly due to inertia, but that is only momentary.

Second, his word usage and grammar are horrid. Grammar is probably that of an American 7th grader (about 13 years old) and his word usage isn't much better. Example: the word deposition. The author used this word numerous times. Every single time he used it, he did so incorrectly. A deposition is a legal document written by a witness that becomes a legally recognized piece of evidence in a trial. The author used the word to mean how ships were arranged in the battle space-their disposition ( aw word he frequently used in conjunction with deposition: "the ships' disposition and deposition:)

The author's punctuation, especially the use of commas, is laughable. If the reader doesn't learn to ignore most commas after the first few chapters, their reading experience is greatly deteriorated due to the author's liberal sprinkling of the test with commas. Thoughts are broken up with commas quite often.

Midshipman Henry Gallant in Space The Henry Gallant Saga Book 1 eBook H Peter Alesso Reviews

Midshipman Henry Gallant in Space was an enjoyable, very entertaining read. The story is set in the 22nd century at time when genetically engineered people are a reality and Naturals (those who have not being engineered) are looked down on. Henry Gallant is a Natural and serving in the United Planets military services. His comrades aboard Repulse (a UP vessel) initially have very little to do with him and question his ability to perform in the role of fighter pilot - most service men and women are genetically engineered which enables them to their jobs 'better' and interface with AIs. Unexpectedly, Henry finds that he has a natural ability to not only interface with his fighter's AI, but also finds his spacitial ability enables him to 'visualise' and co-ordinate the battles with the alien Titans. H. Peter Alesso has created a strong character in Henry Gallant - he is self-effacing, is able to shrug off personal attacks on his abilities and displays a great deal of courage when the odds are stacked against him. By the end of the novel he has won over many of his comrades, earning their respect, and has captured the interest of Kelsey. Overall, the novel has a nice balance between character development and plot, tension and action - excellant read.
Midshipman Henry Gallant in Space is a great first book in a series I look forward to continuing. Set over 100 years in the future where planets like Mars and Jupiter are colonized, Henry Gallant starts his first assignment aboard the Repulse and continues his training. In this way the reader is gradually introduced to the atmosphere, the culture and the technology of this world. Being the only non-enhanced human aboard, or Natural, he is initially at a disadvantage when it comes to interacting with the Artificial Intelligence program, but finds out being normal is actually an advantage when aliens threaten to take over Jupiter and declare war.

This book is a wonderful sci-fi read that shows a lot of research and creativity. The characters are relateable and the battle scenes are engaging. I look forward to seeing where Gallant's adventures take him next.
Peter Alesso really delivers a masterpiece in this story about Henry Gallant!
Each character and every detail was described down to the nitty gritty about Henry Galant and everything that went on about his training and
everything that went on repulse was described to tee. I really like peters writing style as reading the book you almost feel like you can see what he is saying the way he describes
he outlines every technical detail as the story is very intriguing and you cant wait to see whats on the next page he really sparks your curiosity .This is a true must have for all sci-fi fans!

! I really wish i had his writing style! Very fun to read. The only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because it kind of started kind of slow with all the technical details
but ,that did not take away from the beautiful journey Peter takes us on.As soon as you get used to his writing style the story becomes more intriguing and you dont want to put the book down.
Henry Gallant is a midshipman on a journey from Jupiter to Mars. While passing through an asteroid field and some fierce extraterrestrials, he has nobody to help him. And with no real knowledge of what the aliens’ intentions are, probing the computer hardware he has in his possession could determine the fate of planet Earth. But how reliable is Midshipman Gallant? The only remaining Natural human (someone who isn’t genetically altered), his peers and superiors are all a bit skeptical of his abilities. Pretty junior officer Kelsey Mitchel has shown some interest in him—in the form of sympathy more than anything else. But her life, just like everyone else’s hang in the balance, with only Henry Gallant to hopefully save the day.

This was a fast-paced, fun science fiction adventure that hooked me right from page one. I loved Henry—he was tough, smart, and has a bit of an attitude at first due. But throughout the book, he seems to develop and the character begins to really take shape. This is the first book of the series and I am eager to see what happens in the future and learn more about Henry’s rise from Midshipman to Commander.
